An Appeal to Fund Sewing Machines for Kenya

WhatsApp-Image-2023-03-27-at-15.51.44
Equal Ability Radio has been approached by George Osoyu in Kenya to see if we can help supply treadle or electric sewing machines. They need to buy six, costing about £150.
Here is what George told us:

Meet George Osoyu

I am George Osoyu, running a project with the aim of supporting both boys and girls to do away with myths and believes about communities and tribes.
The project is called "Kick 4 A Better Life". We use sports to pass the information of Gender equality and women empowerment. We teach and train girls and boys on how to make reusable sanitary pads and period panties in 25 schools in our communities.

We now have 19 sewing machines but we still need another 6 more machines so that each school can each have a machine for their workshops.

In future each school will have at least 5 sewing machines.

Free Sanitary Pads for all girls

We want to establish kiosks from where our girls can access sanitary napkins and period panties for free.

If you'd like to help us to help George and the girls he is caring for, please let us know.

We think this is a very worthy and empowering cause to support these young women, promoting dignity and hygiene.

Can you help Annette Caster with her News Reports?

Annette Caster

Our virtual News Reader, Annette Caster, is looking for help with sourcing news items relating to disability and disadvantage - from personal experiences in your part of the World.

Help us tell the World what's going on

Very often the news we receive through our TV sets and digital devices is from main stream sources that only cover the headline events available to everyone, what we are interested in is what's happening in your everyday life.

What are your experiences?

We have recently covered accounts of how badly travellers with disabilities are often treated by the major airlines. The lack of availability of on-board wheelchairs to assist with visits to the toilet, passengers being left to crawl down the aisle unassisted on their hands and knees, being told to wear nappies on long haul flights etc... real experiences we may never have heard about if not shared by the people affected.

What do you think our listeners should be made aware of?

You are certain to be experiencing many situations every day that deserve exposure or further investigation? So, tell us about it and let's make the World more aware.

Big Ear Radio is - the station that listens to you!

Your voice to the World!

Volunteer presenters wanted for scheduled and occasional shows

Presenter-Search-March-2023

As we begin to plan our regular live broadcast schedule we will be requiring more Presenters.

Big Ear Radio offers a genuine opportunity for new talent to apply to present shows with us either as a scheduled presenter or as an occasional program maker. "Live" broadcasts need not be delivered in person at a set time, they can be pre-recorded for automatic inclusion at a regular set time.

What are we looking for?

Our listeners are interested in everything a good magazine style format can provide, so regardless of your field of expertise we are highly likely to be interested in your ideas.

Sport, news, business, crafts, drama, audio books, indeed everything is of interest to us, so if you'd like to be considered for a place on our Presenter Team or even as part of our back-office researcher team, we'd love to hear from you.

This is a genuine opportunity to launch a career in broadcasting, so if you think you have what it takes - contact us now at: bigearradio1@gmail.com and let's hear what you have to say?

Nigel Waymark taking a break from The Network Soul Chart

Nigel-Waymark

We're very sad to announce that Nigel Waymark is taking an unspecified break from his extremely popular weekly Network Soul Chart, to take a much earned rest.

Nigel has been loyal to Equal Ability Radio since we started building our team, he and Big Ear Radio Founder Trevor Krueger, met back in the days when they were both presenters with Saint FM, he is a much loved and valued team member and will be greatly missed.

Health Comes First

Nigel lives for his love of Soul Music and travels around the country to support as many live Soul concerts as he can, especially when acts are vising from the States. But he also presents a Breakfast Show on another network four mornings a week and it takes a great deal of work to research, compile and present his shows.

Over recent weeks Nigel has lost a lot of weight and that has been a help, but there are still symptoms that need taking care of and that requires complete rest.

Everyone at Equal Ability Radio wishes him well and a speedy recovery and return at some point, for now we will be repeating some of Nigel's earlier shows until we find someone of his calibre to fill in.

He'll be missed while he's away but he will always have a home here at Big Ear Radio, whenever he wants it.

The essential role of Equal Ability Radio

Logo-Motivate-Stimulate-March-2023

We are often asked to sum up what Equal Ability Radio / Big Ear is all about? Well in simple terms we are about providing great entertainment as a commercial radio station and then, giving away all our profits to support good causes related to disability and disadvantage.

Is that it?

Not quite, because amidst the great music, friendly presenters and timeless content, we also include lots of really useful news, information and solid advice. We aim to help our listeners find solutions to their life problems, new opportunities, employment, education and much more.

Are you included in our target audience?

Absolutely, it doesn't matter who you are, where you are from or how you live your life. Our purpose is to encourage one unified all inclusive global society of like-mined peace loving people who just want to get along and share life on Earth together.

We are here to encourage good people to help each other and turn their back on those who would do us harm.

Live, love and - be happy!

Join us, make us your go-to station and tell your friends about us too.

Former Presenter Sarah Banham releases new novel

Sarah-Banham-Dream-State

When we first launched Big Ear Radio we were very lucky to have Author and writing consultant Sarah Banham as part of our team, presenting a weekly writing show called "Writers Block".

Sarah eventually took a step back from broadcasting to re-devote time to her studies, completing her English Lit Degree and getting back into her real passion - writing books.

Out now and available to purchase and devour!

"Dream State" features Lila as its main character and, knowing Sarah, it is certain to be an exciting and passionate read.

Progress is always about Swings and Roundabouts!

swings-and-roundabouts

This week has been one of mainly good news, lots of positive things happening on the future funding front and some excellent progress with our team building. We have quality people joining us all the time and we are going to need them too, Big Ear Radio has a bright and exciting future, we can't wait to tell you all about it.

But on the other hand...

It's taking our Bank forever to set-up our Bank Account, about 7 weeks we are told to expect, which means we can't do anything to raise essential working capital. That's really going to hurt us as you'd expect. What can we do - but wait...?

In this everything-instant, digital, press-button world, why does it still take banks so long to process an application for a bank account?

Frankly, we just don't understand it.

So, What do people see in radio? Thankfully - nothing!

Super-Trev-Jan-2023

There's an old gag-line that says... "Oh yes, you have the perfect face for radio!" It's been said to me many times. Do I care? Not a bit!

Truth is, I love the fact that radio removes all the barriers that might otherwise prevent "anyone" from discovering their ability to be a true voice for others.

If you had an opportunity to be on the radio, what would you like to do?

Whether presenting a music show, reading the news, narrating a documentary or book, or even giving a lesson on how to do something, as long as you feel confident and have a reasonable tone, there is no reason why anyone can't fulfill an ambition to be a broadcaster.

When I started, I had no experience of operating a studio or talking to an untold number of listeners "live on air", but I took to it very quickly and instantly loved it. My years as a salesman and retailer had taught me how to think on my feet, always having a line to deliver and the confidence to speak with friendly authority - about almost anything.

I have often told the story of what inspired me to get involved in radio in the first place... Only after hearing an excellent presenter on the local station I volunteered for, did I learn that he used the same studio as I did, but he had one extra piece of equipment - a speaking clock - which he could tap to get the time. Why did he need this item? Because he was totally blind and severely autistic. Yet his program was slick, bright and entertaining. I am certain that the majority of listeners had no idea of his condition, they just loved the show.

How will you ever know what you are capable of - if you don't try?

So, I had to give it a go. The only advice I was given, beyond the basics of flying the desk completely solo, was to place my coat on the back of the chair opposite me - and address all my words to it, as if I were talking to a friend right next to me, and... it worked. Radio is, after all, just about communicating with the listener, so that's all you have to do, is have a conversation - with a friend.

I have a small studio in my home so I record my shows there and I can do whatever it takes to feel relaxed and in the best state of mind to chat to my listener friends.

As you'll see from the picture I always dress appropriately for the superhuman task ahead, especially when it's as cold as it has been and we are all trying to keep the heating down one extra notch on the thermostat. It also helps if you don't take yourself too seriously for the lighter programs.

Think you could be one of the extra team voices we are looking for?

If you think you could be an asset to Big Ear Radio, why don't you get in touch?

There's only one absolute rule.... leave your Kryptonite at home!

Could you be our leading fund raiser?

Freelance-Fundraiser-Panel

Equal Ability Radio is seeking a freelance fund raiser to handle our corporate appeals for sponsorship and donations.

Do you have the drive and the contacts?

Raising funds for a charity or good cause is a specialised skill to say the least. We need someone who can handle that for us and help us secure the essential initial funding we need to make the first big step to live broadcasts.

Self sufficiency is our goal

Once we get rolling, we will be self sufficient, bringing in our core overhead costs from our own trading activities. But, initially we need a backer to help us get up and running. We will always be looking for support and sponsorship, but that will mainly be to fund the good causes and needs we aim to support.

Can you fill the post?

The right applicant will be a freelance agent working on a healthy commission based on results. If you are driven by a challenge and the rewards of knowing you are the engine that drives a great cause, please get in touch. Email: trevorkrueger@btinternet.com
